ØTo develop an interest in learning other languages ØTo introduce young children to another language in a way that is enjoyable and stimulating. ØTo encourage children’s confidence and creative skills. Ø To stimulate and encourage children’s curiosity about language. ØTo read and understand the main points and some of the detail in short written texts. ØTo write short texts on familiar topics and use knowledge of grammar to enhance or change the meaning of phrases. ØTo speak confidently: understand the main points in spoken language, take part in conversations and to enhance their speaking and listening skills. ØTo understand a different culture and help children develop their awareness of cultural similarities and differences, celebrate diversity and promote respect for other cultures ØTo lay strong foundations for future language study at Key Stage 3. |
